Nourish Oraka

Healthy, affordable kai made in Shirley

Nourish Oraka was set up by a couple of mums who couldn’t resist the opportunity to provide family friendly employment in our local community. 273,000 school lunches later we switched to providing kai direct to whanau and partnering organisations. Our aims are still to: - provide training, employment and enterprise opportunities

in the Te Oraka/Shirley community - provide healthy kai that utilises seasonal & local produce - build and strengthen connections between people in this community - work towards environmental sustainability

"Oraka" in our name refers both to the Kai Tahu dialect word for wellbeing, and a historic local place name (Te Oraka was a seasonal settlement next to Horeshoe Lake / Waikakariki where Māori gathered kai and resources). We seek to nourish the wellbeing of current residents in the Shirley area.
